Geotechnical Engineering

The Cheal Geotechnical engineering team brings with it a high level of expertise in the areas of liquefaction and settlement prediction, slope stability analysis, soils suitability for foundation design, deep drilling and CPT results analysis, and construction monitoring for bulk earthworks projects. We have undertaken geotechnical analysis projects throughout the country. Our clients have often complimented Cheal on our innovative, timely, and cost effective practical approach to geotechnical testing and reporting, which is always focused on a results outcome for our client.

Cheal’s Geotechnical Engineers remain at the forefront of consistently altering industry practice surrounding liquefaction and settlement analysis, largely resulting from the Christchurch earthquake sequences. As well as Cheal having worked extensively in Christchurch, these skills have been successfully applied to other areas of NZ subject to liquefaction risk, including the margins of Lake Taupo, Lake Rotorua and the surrounding lakes district, the river plains of the Manawatu, as well as coastal areas in Hawkes Bay, and the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Having operated for many years in the Central North Island, Cheal Geotechnical Engineers have unique and specialist skills in the field of geothermal soils analysis and its potential impact on engineering infrastructure projects. This can include measurement and testing of geothermally active ‘hot’ ground, development of engineering solutions to bridge infrastructure (pipes, roads etc) over geothermal soils, and possible methodologies for remediation of geothermally altered materials.

We are also available to undertake Peer Review on alternative geotechnical reports and proposed solutions for clients and Councils as required.

If you are looking for a practically driven yet innovative approach to geotechnical engineering solutions for your next project in Hawkes Bay, Central North Island or Bay of Plenty, then Cheal should be your first and last port of call.
