Cheal’s Geotechnical Engineers remain at the forefront of consistently altering industry practice surrounding liquefaction and settlement analysis, largely resulting from the Christchurch earthquake sequences. As well as Cheal having worked extensively in Christchurch, these skills have been successfully applied to other areas of NZ subject to liquefaction risk, including the margins of Lake Taupo, Lake Rotorua and the surrounding lakes district, the river plains of the Manawatu, as well as coastal areas in Hawkes Bay, and the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
Having operated for many years in the Central North Island, Cheal Geotechnical Engineers have unique and specialist skills in the field of geothermal soils analysis and its potential impact on engineering infrastructure projects. This can include measurement and testing of geothermally active ‘hot’ ground, development of engineering solutions to bridge infrastructure (pipes, roads etc) over geothermal soils, and possible methodologies for remediation of geothermally altered materials.
We are also available to undertake Peer Review on alternative geotechnical reports and proposed solutions for clients and Councils as required.
